Shaz is a writer.

She has written and published numerous short stories both in print and online, she has written and sold two screenplays, and has developed a television pilot based on the material she performs. Her essays have been published in Cake Magazine, Imaging Ourselves, Wire, Salon and the Huffington Post. Her essay "Mormons vs. Catholics" is apart of the book "Dirty Laundry".

Shaz is a commedienne/storyteller.

While living in New York, she studied with Spaulding Grey and wrote & performed four one-woman shows: "The Shaz Show," "Abrasive Fairy Tales," "Eyes, Lips, Legs," and "Hungover Angel." In addition to New York these shows have been performed extensively in theatres, spoken word festivals, museums and abandoned warehouses all over the US, Mexico, Canada, South Africa and Europe in spoken word festivals sponsored by MTV, Comedy Central, Hennessey and NOW. She performs regularly with the Heroines of comedy, The Moth, Third Saturdays, A Shot and a Beer, and Sit n Spin at the Comedy Central Stage. Backstage called her "A six foot tall Liza" and the New York Post described her as "the Mormon Dennis Leary".

Shaz haz pizzazz.

Shaz was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. She currently lives in Silverlake, Califorina with her true love and their cat Jonah named after the guy in the bible who was swallowed by a whale.

Shaz is a filmmaker.

Shaz wrote and starred in the award winning short films "Martini", "Tunnels" and "Top of the Circle", these films screened at over 50 film festivals including The Los Angeles Film Festival, True West Festival, Silverdocs, and traveled the world with Lunafest, the Berkley Photographic Museum and the International Women's Museum.

Shaz is a film programmer.

For the past ten years Shaz Bennett has been the Assoc. Director of Programming at AFI FEST (The American Film Institute Los Angeles International Film Festival). She has also worked for the Los Angeles Film Festival and the San Francisco International Film Festival. Shaz worked for seven years with the Sundance Institute tracking projects for the summer labs and screening short films. Shaz has served on festival juries and spoken on panels at film festivals all over the US, Mexico, Europe and South Africa. She contributes often to popular independent film blogs and writes regularly for Moving Pictures, La Vie de Boheme and Next Films.
